Alabama’s S.R. Butler advances to Classic II Championship

 

S.R. Butler High earned a date in one of two Chick-fil-A Classic title games with a 68-59 win Thursday against Lexington Catholic High.

 

The Rebels (Huntsville, AL) were led by Rod Smith’s 23 points and Jeff Smith’s 21.

 

The Knights (Lexington, KY) had balanced scoring, with Cornell Burbage posting 12 points and Taylor Stewart adding 11.

 

The Rebels outscored the Knights 42-24 in the second half, shooting 59.1 percent.

 

S.R. Butler (12-1) plays at 6:30 p.m. Friday in the Classic II Championship against the Richland Northeast-Hamilton winner. Lexington Catholic (3-4) plays the loser of that game in the third-place contest at 3:20 p.m. Friday.
