The Golden Eagles

The Athens Golden Eagles are coached by Vernard Hendrix. In his first
year as head coach in 2002-2003, Coach Hendrix led Athens to a 25-8
season in which his team won two invitationals and was the 5A Area 15
Champions. The Golden Eagles finished their season by making it all
the way to the Sweet 16 of the Alabama 5A State Tournament. With two
��All-Area�� players(Richard Hendrix and Rod Doss) returning, Athens is
expecting to again challenge for the State Championship in 2003-2004.

Richard Hendrix
Richard is a 6��8, 240 lb junior power forward who averaged 23 points,
14 rebounds, and 6 blocked shots per game during the 2002-2003 season.
He was All-State, All-Area, and a finalist for the Alabama 5A State
Player of the Year as a sophmore. Richard is now a top 5 nationally
ranked junior player.

The Indians of Dobyns-Bennett return two starters from last season��s
30-5 team that won their Regions�� Championship and made it to the State
Quarter-finals. Jeff Morrison and Lamon Williams are expected to lead
the Indians this year as they try to continue their schools proud tradition.
Dobyns-Bennett is the second winningest program in the United States
with 1,920 wins. The Indians are coached by Charlie Morgan.

The Raiders of Mays High School are expecting big things for the upcoming
season after finishing 2002-2003 with a record of 23-7. Four of their
seven losses were by a combined score of five points. Mays has three
returning starters from last seasons team that made it to the Georgia��s
��Sweet 16�� including all-state junior forward Rashad Chase. The Raiders
are coached by Floyd Mack who is also the schools athletic director.

and 8 rebounds in 2002-2003. Rashad is a top 25 nationally ranked junior
player.

The Bearcats

The 2002-2003 basketball season at Brookland-Cayce High School was a
memorable one as the Bearcats posted a 20-7 overall record that included
the Championship of very tough Region V 3A and a trip to the State Playoffs.
The Bearcats return two starters from a senior dominated team that finished
fourth in the inaugural Chick-fil-A Classic. In 2003-2004, Brookland-Cayce
is expected to be led by 6��2 shooting guard Jawaun Taylor. Coach Ricky
Bouknight, an alumnus of Brookland-Cayce, begins his 3rd season as the
head coach of the Bearcats with a 33-18 record and two consecutive playoff
appearances.

In 2002-2003 the Raiders of Keenan made the Class 3A playoffs for the
4th straight year under Coach Zack Norris. In Coach Norris four years
at Keenan, the Raiders have won 20 or more games each year including
back to back Class 3A State Championships his first two seasons. Keenan
returns four starters and seven other lettermen from last season��s 20-6
team and is expected to again challenge for the State Championship.
The Raiders will be again led by Andre Belton(All-Region, All-State)
and Justin Rickerson(All-Region).

Andre is a 6��3 senior guard-forward who averaged 22 points, 10 rebounds,
and 3 assist per game in 2002-2003. He was named to both the All-Region
and All-State teams.

The Cavaliers

The Cavaliers return two starters and four other lettermen who gained
valuable experience on last year��s 17-11 team that advanced to the final
eight in the 2002-2003 4A State Playoffs. Over the last nine years,
the Cavaliers have averaged 20 wins per season and have finished in
the states top ten each season. Seniors Darius Lane, Antonio Green,
Marshawn Martin, Cedric Barnes, AJ Darden, and Shawn Walker will be
counted on heavily to help lead the Cavaliers to another sucessful season
under head coach Jason Powell. Powell served as an assistant for seven
years at Richland Northeast before leaving to take the Spring Valley
job in 2001-2002 where he led the Vikings to the 2nd round of the 4A
State Playoffs. Powell returned to RNE in 2002 after the retirement
of Gary Fulmer and now is in his second season as head coach.

The Bulldogs

Since Coach Ken Spencer arrived in 1998, Marlboro County has made the
state playoffs each season including a State 4A Runner-Up finish in
2000 and a State 4A Championship in 2001. The Bulldogs has won their
Region��s Championship the last four years in a row. Marlboro is a fast
paced and defensive minded team that can put points on the scoreboard.
With the return of two starters(6��9 Rasean Dickey and 6��7 Cassan Breeden)
and six other lettermen, the Bulldogs again expect to be a top ranked
contender.

Rasean is a 6��9 senior center who averaged 18 points, 15 rebounds,
and 5 blocks per game in 2002-2003. He is a 3-time All-Region and 2-time
All-State player. Rasean is a nationally ranked top 40 senior.

The Blazers return two starters(Carlton Evans and Tony Gray) along with
four lettermen from last seasons Region Champion team that finished
14-12. Ridge View is coached by Vince Lowry. Coach Lowry has been a
head coach for 17 seasons. He is coaching Ridge View for a second time(he
was the school��s first head basketball coach). The Blazers have won
the Region Championship two of the four seasons he has coached them.
This years team again expects to be very competitive.

Coach Tim Morris��s Woodmont Wildcats finished last season with a record
of 24 wins and 3 losses. They made it to the Class 2A ��Final Four�� for
the third time in four seasons. In 2002-2003, the Wildcats won their
regions�� championship and has done so for 5 out of the last 6 seasons
while averaging 20 wins per season. All-Region performer Sam Perry and
four other returning lettermen are expected to lead the Wildcats to
another highly successful season. Coach Morris is beginning his 7th
season at Woodmont with a record of 124-49.

Sam is a 6��5 senior forward who averaged 17 points and
12 rebounds per game in 2002-2003. He was an All-Region selection last
season as a junior. Sam has committed to play for Clemson University
next year.

The Trojans of West Brunswick are coached by Dan McGougan. Coach McGougan
has been involved with coaching basketball for the past 27 years. This
years team will return 8 players who gained valuable experience as sophmores
and juniors in 2002-2003. The Trojans will be led by 6��9 Cedric Simmons
who is considered to be one of the top 30 seniors nationally. Ray Bland
and Trenton Burney will also be counted on to help West Brunswick have
a sucessful season.

Cedric is a 6��9 nationally ranked top 25 senior player. In 2002-2003
he averaged 18 points, 12 rebounds , and 4 blocked shots per game. Cedric
has committed to North Carolina State University.

The Millbrook Wildcats finished 2002-2003 with an overall record of
21-4 and a final regular season ranking of #5. Millbrook lost in the
4A State Playoffs to Southeastern Raleigh by a score of 83-73. The Wildcats
return two Division I prospects from last years team(6��7 Cameron Stanley
and 6��4 Simon Harris) and are again expecting to challenge for the State
Championship. Millbrook is coached by Scott McInnes who is also the
school��s athletic director.

Cameron is a 6��6 senior forward who averaged 19 points and 11 rebounds
in 2002-2003. He is a top 100 nationally ranked senior who has committed
to Wake Forest University.

The Stags

DeMatha is one of the premier high school basketball programs in the
country. The Stags hold the national record for most consecutive home
varsity wins at 124(1961-1976). Coach Michael Jones, a DeMatha alumnus,
is beginning his second year as head coach of the Stags after taking
over for the legendary Morgan Wooten. Coach Wooten retired as the All-Time
winningest high school boy��s basketball coach with 1,274 victories..
Notable NBA players Adrian Dantley, Joe Forte, and Danny Ferry played
for DeMatha. In 2003-2004, the Stags are expected to be led by Desmond
Adedeji, Joe Palumbo, and Mamadi Diane.

The Generals

In 2002-2003, the Generals
of Wade Hampton High School made the Class 3A State Playoffs for the
fifth consecutive season. They finished with an overall record of 13
wins and 10 losses while overcoming an injury filled season in which
seven different starting lineups was used during the first 10 games.
Wade Hampton returns three starters and five other lettermen to this
years team including 6��9 All-Region player Damion Harris. Coach Darryl
Nance is beginning his 15th year as a head coach with the
last eight at the helm of the Generals.

16 points, 12 rebounds, and 6 blocked shots per game during the 2002-2003
season. He has committed to attend and play basketball next season for
the University of Tennessee.
