Myrtle Beach is the defending South
Carolina Class AAA State Champions. The Seahawks finished last
season with a 21-game winning streak for an overall record of 30
wins and 1 loss and a national ranking of 23rd in the USA
Today’s Super 25 final rankings. The key to their success in
2002-2003 is junior guard Ramon Sessions who has a national top
100 ranking. He will be counted on for leadership as well as his
scoring ability.

Ramon is a 6’2 junior point guard who averaged 15 points and 7
assists a game during the 2001-2002 season. Ramon is a top 100
nationally ranked player.

The Hornets

Since Coach Mebane arrived in 1988, the Hornets have made the
playoffs each season while winning 6 regular season & 6
tournament conference championships. His teams have finished no
lower than fourth place in their conference and have won 20 or
more games 9 out of 14 seasons.
The Hornets are a fast paced and defensive minded team that can
put points on the scoreboard. This past season Hillside set
school records for three pointers made in a game (12) and season
(110). Led by Conference Player of the Year Bobby Perry who has
committed to Kentucky, the Hornets look to contend for the 3-A
State Title this season.

Bobby Perry
Bobby is a 6’8 forward who averaged 22 points and 11 rebounds a
game during the 2001-2002 season. Bobby is a national top 100
player who is on pace to score over 1500 points in his career.
He has committed to play his college basketball for Tubby Smith
at Kentucky.

The Cavaliers

The Cavaliers return 2 starters and 3 other lettermen from last
season’s 28-2 Class AAAA State Runner-Up team. Over the last
three seasons, the Cavaliers have a record of 78 wins and only 9
losses while either tying or breaking the school record for wins
in each of those years. In each of the last two seasons, the
Cavaliers have had winning streaks of 20 and 22 games
respectively. Richland Northeast has won 20 or more games for
seven consecutive seasons while being ranked in the states top
ten each of those years. Darius Lane (Jr), Darral Lane (Sr),
Lorenzo Johnson (Sr), Anthony White (Sr), Alexis Thompson (Sr),
along with newcomer Sharrod White(Sr) are expected to help the
Cavaliers continue their winning ways in 2002-2003 under new
head coach Jason Powell. Coach Powell previously served as the
jv coach and varsity assistant coach for RNE for seven seasons
before taking the head job at Spring Valley High School last
season where he led the Vikings to a 17-11 record and the second
round of the state playoffs.

Darius Lane
Darius is a 5’9 guard who started and led the team last in made
three pointers(33) while averaging 5 points per game as a
sophomore. Darius has the potential to carry on the Cavaliers
tradition of All-State guards. Be on the watch for a breakout
year.

The Bulldogs

In 2001-2002, Coach Sam Lilly’s Silver Bluff Bulldogs finished
with a record of 26 wins and 6 losses. They made it to the Class
AA Final Four before losing to eventual State Champion
Allendale-Fairfax by a score of 55-52. The Bulldogs have won the
region championship 2 out of the last 3 seasons in one of the
toughest regions in the state. In 2002-2003, the Bulldogs will
again be led by 6’9 All-Stater Brandon Wallace. Coach Lilly also
expects rising sophomores Bobby Davis and Terrance Crawford to
contribute to the team’s success.

Brandon is a 6’9 senior forward who averaged 22 points and 13.5
rebounds per game during the 2001-2002 season. Brandon is a top
100 nationally ranked senior. He has committed to play his
college basketball at the University of South Carolina.

The Brookland-Cayce Bearcats are coming off a 13-11 season under
first year coach Ricky Bouknight. The Bearcats return three
starters from a team that finished in 3rd place in tough Region
5-AAA. Returning seniors Jerell Jamison, Chris Sabb and Cory
Etheridge will lead the team in the 2002- 2003 basketball
season. Jamison, a 6’4 highly recruited senior, will be looking
to improve on a very successful junior season in which he led
the Bearcats in scoring. Sabb and Etheridge will also have the
chance to be recruited during this basketball season. The
Bearcats will need to find a point guard to compete with a tough
schedule of non-conference and conference games. Developing
depth at all positions will also be a key for the Bearcats to be
successful.

Jerrell Jamison
Jerrell is a 6’4 senior guard who led the team in scoring at 20
points per game last season. He was an All-State selection and
expects to surpass the 1000 point mark during his senior season.
Jerrell is a top 250 nationally ranked player.

The Yellow Jackets of Lee County are expecting big things for
the upcoming season. Todd Hendley, a 6’9 senior, has committed
to Wake Forest University. He is expected to lead the team. He
averaged 18 points, 9 rebounds, and 2 blocked shots per game
during the 2001-2002 basketball season. Look for those numbers
to improve during the 2002- 2003 season. Adrian Woodard, a 6’3
junior who averaged 10 points and 6 rebounds per game and
sophomore R.J. Peace are the other returning starters. The
Yellow Jackets have 9 letterman returning, along with a strong
group of junior varsity players who are moving up to varsity.
Coach Reggie Peace is excited and optimistic about the upcoming
season and the chance of going deep into the playoffs.

Todd is a 6’9 senior forward who averaged 18 points and 9
rebounds during the 2001-2002 season. Todd is a top 125
nationally ranked senior. He has committed to play his college
basketball next year at Wake Forest University.

The Falcons

In 2002- 2002 the Falcons of A.C. Flora made the Class AAA
playoffs for the sixth consecutive season with a 15-12 record.
Four players from last year’s teams signed college basketball
scholarships. The Falcons return two starters (Van Jordan and
Mike Utsey) at guard for the 2002- 2003 season. If the Falcons
are to improve on last years record, they will need for 6’9”
Antoine Griffin and 6”4 Sidney Hoff to be big contributors
around the basket.

Mike is a 6’2 senior guard/forward who averaged 11 points and 8
rebounds per game during the 2001-2002 season. Look for those
numbers to increase during the 2002-2003 season. Mike will be an
important part of the Falcon’s success this year.

Allendale-Fairfax is the defending Class AA State Champions. The
Tigers finished 2001- 2002 with a record of 22 wins and 9
losses. A-F defeated perennial Class AA power Calhoun County in
the finals by a score of 64-59. Coach Shawn Jones expects the
2002- 2003 edition of the Tigers to again compete for another
state championship. Look for forwards Eric Priester (6’5”) and
Triston Hayward (6’6”) to lead a balanced scoring attack.

The Saints

The 2001-2002 basketball season at Calhoun County High School
was again a memorable one as the Saints posted a 27-4 overall
record that included their 12th consecutive region title, a
third consecutive trip to the Class AA State Championship game
and a trip to the City of Palms Tournament in Florida. The
2002-2003 season promises to be very exciting as the Saints
return three starters including two-time Region Player of the
Year and All- State performer Zam Fredrick II, along with
All-Region Players, Darren Ben, and Phillip Merling . Other
players who are expected to play key roles for the Saints this
year include Henry Salley, Kevin Frazier, Quincy Brunson, and
Atonie Tyree. The Saints will rely on the trio of Fredrick, Ben,
and Merling to head this year’s squad back to the state
championship.

Zam is a 6’1 junior guard who averaged 21 points and 5 assists
per game during the 2001-2002 season. He is a two-time Region
Player of the Year and an All-State performer. Zam is a top 50
nationally ranked junior.

The Vikings

The Spring Valley Vikings finished the 2001-2002 season with a
17-11 record under first year head coach Jason Powell. Finishing
third in Region IV 4A, the Vikings qualified for the state
playoffs for the fourth consecutive year. After winning their
first playoff game in over 12 years, the Vikings were eliminated
in the second round of the state playoffs by West Ashley. The
Vikings were winners of the Gator Christmas Invitational and
finished third in the Aiken High “Godfather Pizza” Christmas
Invitational. Nine seniors return this season, led by returning
starters Derrick Irvin and Randall Marshall. This year, Robert
Jackson, who previously coached at Barnwell High School, will
begin his first year as head coach of the Vikings.

Zach is a 5’9 senior guard who carries a 3.93 GPA in the
classroom. In 2001-2002 he averaged 10 points and 3 assists per
game. According to Coach Jackson, “Zach is a gifted player with
a vast array of potential.”

record of 17 wins and 12 losses. Led by 6’11 Randolph Morris
(national top 25 junior), the War Eagles expect to improve upon
last year’s record.

and 12 rebounds during the 2001-2002 season. Randolph is a top
25 nationally ranked junior. As a sophomore, he led his team in
scoring 14 out of 29 games.

In 2001-2002, the McEachern Indians finished second in their
conference with an overall record of 18 wins and 7 losses. Coach
Westerfield is excited about the prospects for the 2002-2003
season with all five starters returning. Almond Morris (6’6) and
Josh Smith (6’7) are again expected to lead the way on offense.
Both players averaged over 20 points per game last season. This
year’s edition of the Indians hopes to challenge for the Georgia
Class AAAAA State Championship.
